Bad install package error?

I just copied my C: drive onto a larger HDD and all appears fine -
expect for MS apps. My Office XP asks for the CD whenever I open an app
or document. Word gives me a "need to Repair install" blip.

However, it refuses to install from CD! When I try I get a Windows
Installer message:

"The patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch pakage
exists...."

I have the lastest Indows Installer (3.1 latest build), and MS Office
Update engine refuses to do anything. I downloaded MSO SP3 and it says
"everything is fine"

I am a bit reticent about trying an "uninstall" just in case it decides
to not reinstall afterwards since setup refuses to come up from the CD
at this point.
