Bad image checksum on boot??

I have Windows XP Pro installed[1] on a laptop that suddenly refuses to
boot beyond a blue screen stating "c0000221 bad image checksum" and
mentions "url.dll" as the culprit.

I can find many references to "bad image checksum" but none that
include url.dll

The system will also not start in Safe Mode.

Can anyone suggest what i might do?

[1] This was *not* an upgrade, it has been working perfectly for ages

Hi

Have you tried here:

"Stop 0xC0000221 or STATUS_IMAGE_CHECKSUM_MISMATCH"
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tr...prodtechnol/winxppro/reskit/prmd_stp_tnvo.asp

Tx2,

I am having exactly the same issue as you with my PC. However, the link Will Denny provided is broken!

How did you solve this problem,or for that matter, does anyone know how to fix it?
