Hello everyone,

I just did a clean install of XP pro, *but* somehow, my
user account seems to have lost the "open" attribute to
any type of shortcut / application... double clicking one
anywhere just defaults to running my antivirus for that
icon... when I right click, the only options available
are:

Scan with Norton AntiVirus
Pin to Start Menu
Cut
Copy
Create Shortcut
Delete
Rename
Properties

Applies to all applications... No option to
actually "Open" them or "Run" them????

Under my Admin account on the same machine though...
everything is OK.

Any suggestions where the culprit may lie?

Thanks!

Frank

The restore exe asssociation reg file that Doug has on his site should
fix
your problem

You can find it here

Wow, thanks for the fast response!

I tried the url you listed, and merged the .exe fix into the registry...
but to no avail :(

So, experimenting, I created a new user account... with no success (noting
that my admin account still functioned correctly) but the bug was somehow
transfered to the new user account. Finally, upgraded my existing user
account to admin privedges, and Viola! Applications finally have an "Open"
function again!

But now, how do I keep my user account restricted and functioning? I tried
to use user accounts yet again to move my user account back to limited
status... but once again, Applications lose the "open" feature and double
clicking defaults to opening the A/V to scan the icon!?!?!

Thanks,

Frank
