I recently purchased a Serial ATA drive, and after a week the computer hard
disk suffered an irepairable fault which stopped it from booting. I got
error messages (when in safe mode) like 'Unknown Hard Error'.
I also when I tried to install some games or play some games the
installation found errors with the Component Transfer. These errors stopped
installtion of the game in question. I looked in Event Viewer, and it said
that the CD-ROM drive had a 'bad block'. I thought this was due to me
installing from a CD-RW drive, so I tried installing from my DVD drive, same
error.
The games that I have been installing are all brand new and work and install
fine on every other computer I have tried.
I thought that the Serial ATA drive was to blame, so I put in my 2 year old
40GB Maxtor drive, but it got the SAME errors when installing/playing the
SAME games. I really was puzzled here.
Then, I ran a program to check the memmory modules for errors, as I read
somewhere that memmory can account for unsucessful installtions/file
copying. The program found 32 errors with my 3 month old Crucial 256MB DDR
PC3200 chip.
My CPU only runs at 333FSB (166MHZ), could the difference be causing the
memmory to work incorrectly? or am I barking up the wrong tree looking into
memmory as a possible cause of these anomolies.
What is to fault?
Thanks, and Happy New Year!
