I am having trouble finding an easy way to backup my
outlook file to a cd. I downloaded the backup utility on
the website, but it doesn't seem to work. It tells me it
will backup when I exit, but then nothing happens. Then
when I try to copy the outlook.pst file to a cd it tells
me it is locked by another program (even though I have
exited Outlook). One of the help suggestions suggested
uninstalling the backup, which I have done, but outlook is
still locked, and I am not able to copy it onto a cd. I
have resorted to exporting each of my folders instead, but
that is really time consuming. I would really appreciate
any help since I work from home and am terrified of losing
my files.

There is another program, like WinFAX or ActiveSync that is keeping Outlook
open. When you find that program and exit or stop it, Outlook will close
and the PFBACKUP add-in will run.

Try restarting Windows, and before you run Outlook or do anything else, try
the backup.

I've had some PalmOS versions where it would keep some parts of Outlook
around in memory after a HotSync, if Outlook wasn't already running when you
did the HotSync. Only fix for that is remember to run Outlook before the
HotSync, or, kill the process (such as MAPISP32.EXE in some versions) using
Task Manager. But a restart of Windows is probably safest.
