Hello,

My system is working ok now and I'd like to backup my whole pc
so if something happes I can restore all programs, data, settings
just the way are now.

I have dvd and I know is there some applications that can do
something like an image to boot from some dvd and restore the
whole thing...

Can you tell me please if that's right and what tool / soft could use?
If is there a freeware utility or shareware would be great!

Thanks!

Windows XP Pro but never used the system tool does actually work?

I need to put the whole pc info in one or several dvds to boot from my dvd
in case something goes wrong and recover all programs, files etc

Can you tell me if are we talking about the same thing?
Ghost seems to be a good alternative but is some U$70, expensive to
me and has no trial...

What Operating system are you using?

I have XP Pro and the Backup device that is part of this system works well
for me.

I have also used Symantic's Norton Ghost with success.

Ntbackup.exe Wizard (ASR) will backup everything on the system (usually C) drive to floppies (yeah right), another HDD or tape. It does work and works well.

It does not burn backups to CD or DVD. To do that you need a 3rd party imaging program. I use TrueImage from www.acronis.com.

What you need is an image program that supports images to DVD.

A Google search or an langa.com search for image programs will find a
number.

Symantec Norton Ghost current versions are Ghost Version 9 and Ghost 2003.
Both are included in the Ghost Version 9 retail package.

Ghost Version 9 will image/backup to internal/external DVDs and hard drives.
Ghost Version 9 does the image/backup from within Windows XP/2000, Ghost
Version 9 CD is bootable to restore your primary partition and the partition
that includes Ghost. Other partitions can be restore from within Windows
XP/2000. Ghost Version 9 can also restore selected folders and files and do
incremental image/backups.

For more information on Ghost Version 9 start here:

I don't know what to say. I've heard bad comments about acronis and
is rated below 50% positive comments on cnet.

Is Norton ghost 2003 the last update? I saw norton ghost 9 or symantec ghost
dont
remember... is the same application?

I've been working on pc for years but don't know much about partitions... do
you think
norton would be a bad choice then?

A caution that Norton Ghost 2003 is not for beginners (if you are one)
