I'd like to backup my folders, emails and contacts.I have a free backup
utility that zips anything to a cd.I guess I'm basically asking where these
files are on the hard drive. Thanks

Did you look in the help provided with the program? What is unsuitable about
its advice?

Take a look here, it may help:

Make sure you don't backup to a CD-ROM, or the file will be read-only format,
and Outlook will not import it. Use a floppy or a CD-RW.

If you must use a CD-ROM, okay, but if you need to use your backup, you will
first need to copy it to your hard drive (like on your desktop or someplace
easy to find) and change the file permissions on the new copy. Right-click
the file on where you saved it on your computer and click Properties. Make
sure read-only is NOT checked.

Now Outlook should import it with no problem.

The same file-attribute issue would apply to backing up your actual emails,
too.

Never import a .pst file - just open it in Outlook File->Open->Outlook Data
File.
