For some reason I can't even imagine, my Backup program
under Accessories > Systems Tools is missing! I have used
it many times and then suddenly it's gone. I did a Search
but still did not come up with it. Do I have to reload
Windows OS from the CD or can I somehow load just that
program from the CD? Or would it be better to use System
Restore to see if I can get back to a time when Backup was
still there? Thanks.

Type
NTBACKUP
at Start > Run and click "OK". If Backup starts now, only the shortcut
is missing. Create a new shortcut to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTM32\NTBACKUP.EXE
in your Start Menu to correct this.

I see you have been muddying the water elsewhere. And I
also noticed you cant spell. Are you bored?

It is on the retail XP Home CD; it's just not loaded by default. You can
load it from the CD.

Thorsten - I tried your suggestion but got a message that
said "Windows cannot find NTBACKUP . . . " etc. What next?
Thank you.

This means that Backup is not installed. You can install it from the
Control Panel > Add and remove Programs > Add/remove Windows
Components. If Backup currently is selected here, uninstall it and
then re-install it from the same dialog.

Thorsten - I found Accessories but Backup is not listed
under it - just the other items such as Calculator,
Character Map, etc. Thanks, Jeff

Thorsten - that worked. Backup is now loaded where it was
under Accessories. It looks a little different perhaps
than what I had previously - I can't remember. But it's
there and looks ready to go. Many thanks for getting me
out of one of the strangest things I (or my computer) has
ever done.

You are welcome.

Its not installed by default for XP Home users. You have to install it
from the ValueAdd folder on the XP CD.
System REstore will only restore system files but NOT data files and
is not a good way for backups.
I suggest a third party backup program anyway due to limitations of
the NTBackup program.

Is there any simple way to install Back-up on Windows XP without obtaining an installation disc? My program was factory installed.

Hi,

No, there isn't. In WinXP Home, you need to install it from the CD (provided
it is included, there is no requirement on resellers to include value-add
software).
