Hi all,
I just got a new computer and notice that there is no backup option. Start,
programs, accessories, system tools, AAUUUGGGHH no backup!
Tried to search for it but its not anywhere.
I thought this was a feature of XP?
Computer is a Dell with XP Home. (guess its an OEM version)
is there a way to install the backup program from another XP machine?

Hi

If you are running XP Home - the backup utility isn't installed by default.
Depending on what kind of XP CD you have it can be found in the
valueadd\msft\ntbackup folder.

[[If you are using a computer that an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM)
provided with a pre-installed copy of Windows XP, the Valueadd and Support
folders may not exist on your hard disk or on the recovery CD-ROM that was
included with your computer.

This issue can occur because OEM computers that include a pre-installed copy
of Windows XP do not include a Windows XP CD-ROM, or the Valueadd and
Support folders. Instead, OEM computers typically include a restoration
CD-ROM, and this CD-ROM does not contain the Valueadd and Support folders.

Among others, some of the utilities in this folder are USMT Command line
components, NTBACKUP, additional fonts, and the unsupported NetBEUI
protocol.]]

You can download NTBackup here:
http://www.onecomputerguy.com/software/ntbackup.msi

The Dell CD that says: Reinstallation CD Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition does have the
NTbackup.msi file on it. it's in the folder: \VALUEADD\MSFT\NTBACKUP
