My computer is well overdue for a format, but in doing so will lose all my
downloaded Windows Security Updates. Is it possible to backup all these
downloaded updates before formatting and then re-install them after the
format and install of operating system? This would save me a lot of time in
not having to wait for Windows to download the multitude of updates that have
been made available since I got my operating system CD (Some 11 months ago...)

Any help you can offer is much appreciated!!

No, you can not backup the installed Windows Updates. However, you can locate
the same updates from Windows Catalog.

No, not unless you saved a copy of the update file prior to installing it.
Once installed they can't be backed up. Next time instead of doing
automatic updates, use the custom option at the windows update site, see
what updates are needed and download each update - saving it to disk or a CD
or DVD, them install each one by running the update file. This will be a
whole bunch of work the first time since there are some 70+ post SP2
updates. Keeping up with it as you go along isn't so bad but doing it all
from the beginning is quite a job.

download and save the updates that you need. Then burn them to CD.
