Can anyone recommend a software to make a complete backup of several pop3
accounts setup on my Outlook Express?

I need to wipe the system an start from scratch, but would prefer not to
have to set all these accounts up again.

Thanks

It isn't really necessary to get a program to do it. Essentially, all
that's required is backup/copy the data stores (.dbx) and then
from each mail identity, do an account export to an .Iaf module.
Finally, copy your Windows Address Book (.Wab) to a safe
location or backup.
Once you've rebuilt XP, import the .Iaf(s) to re-create the mail
accounts and for each identity redirect the store folders to your
backup location.
Actually the OE expert here is PABear and perhaps he can offer
a better solution.

Yes its the exporting of identties thats the most important... Can you tell
me where I start when doing this?
As long as I can get the identities over, (presumeably with pop3 account
details, passwords etc...) That will do the job

How do I exportthe .Iaf files?

Thanks

1.) Open the Identity
2.) Click Tools, Accounts
3.) Select Mail (TAB)
4.) Select (Highlight) the account
5.) Click the "Export" button
6.) Pick a distinctive name and location & click "Save"

The more difficult issue is the data stores. They use common names
(Inbox, Sent) so you have to save each Identity in it's own uniquely
named folder. I keep my mail on a separate partition in a Mailbox
folder. This way my mail is isolated from XP and on re-installs or a
image recovery I don't loose any data. Perhaps the easiest way to
backup is to redirect the data stores from within OE to a non-XP
partition or drive. Create a Root folder Mailbox and a sub-folder
for each Identity.

To redirect or move them:
1.) Tools, Options, Maintenance, "Store Folders" button.
2.) Change ( Browse to your new storage sub-folder)
3.) Close & Re-open OE with the same Identity
4.) Revisit the Store folder option & Verify move took place.

Repeat for all the other Identities Once XP is re-installed and after
importing Iaf, duplicate the steps above to redirect the data stores to
the alternate location.

One more thing - Create a sub-folder called Address. Then do a full
system search ( w/ Hidden, System & Protected files/folders) for the
file extension .Wab. This is the address book - back it up as well. It
may also find a .Wa~, which you can ignore.
