Just a new user of XP. Found in knowledge base how to
backup files using the backup/restore wizard...tried
following instructions and backup/restore wizard did not
appear in system tools list under accessories. We are
only users of computer and are 'administrator'.

ANy ideas?? We found way to copy files to a CD but it
seems slow (although backup wizard may be slower_

Thanks

Backup is not installed by default on XP Home. If you have xp home, then you
have to install the backup program from the valueadd folder on the xp cd.

You have to install it:

If you have a rescue disk the valueadded folder may be on
it or your XP Disk, Mine was on disk #2

Insert the XP or Rescue CD, and run NTBACKUP.MSI
program
from the folder D:\valueadd\msft\ntbackup

You can get a copy here;
http://www.onecomputerguy.com/software/ntbackup.msi

In XP Home the ASR Floppy Disk does not work . It will
NOT
backup to a CD. You can back up to a folder on your
hard drive then burn it to a CD. The native program in XP
will not span CD's though.

Here is how to use it;

Windows Backup Does Not Back Up to CD-R, CD-RW, or DVD-R
Devices [Q315255]

You can cheat it with a packet writing program like Roxio
Direct CD & Drag and Drop (comes with Easy CD Creator )
Or Nero InCD or Sonic DLA You then use a CD ( will not
Span cd's) or DVD's (4.7+ gb) to back up too.

Backup is installed automatically on XP Professional, but not on
XP Home. If you have the complete XP Home CD, find backup on the
CD, in \ValueAdd\MSFT\NTBACKUP and install it yourself by
doubleclicking the file ntbackup.msi.

If you don't have an XP CD, you can download ntbackup.msi at
http://www.onecomputerguy.com/software/ntbackup.msi

I found a great backup solution. I just got Drive Image 7. I have a 40 GB
USB 2.0 external hard drive. I backed up a 26GB image of my hard drive in
30 minutes using DI 7 and my USB drive. .

If you are using XP Home, the backup utility is not installed - it will
be on the CD in Tools\Msoft\ntbackup, from which run the backup.msi
file; but only *if* you have a retail version CD = it is not usually
provided with machines bought with XP installed.

But in any case it will not do backups to CD - it is very much
tape-based - and I would go look for something else.

I haven't ever come across a version of phpBB2 that doesn't include a backup
utility within its admin page. You sure it's not there?

Here's info on mysqldump:

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/mysqldump.html

Who wants you to pay $25 to get it? Your host?

Can you ssh to your web server? Does you host give you access to phpMyAdmin,
which you can also use to backup your mysql database.

I would be so please if somebody can help! Thanks. KopyKat

Yes my host wants me to pay. But when I asked for details of what
would get for my money they didn't have an answer! :(

And No there isn't a backup facility. I asked the hosts and they sai
they have a different setup with no backup facility by the user.

Still trying to solve this annoying problem. Perhaps I should chang
to another host? although that would entail a lot of work. Or i
there an easy way to transfer my forum to another one.

thanks
