I have a user who has XP Home Edition. The Backup utility
is not on the menu system nor can I find it on the hard
drive. Was this removed in the home edition? If not,
where is it? It should be in the accessories/system tools
area.

Install Backup on Windows XP Home Edition
Users of XP Home Edition that have tried to back up their
systems may have been surprised to find that the Backup
utility is not included in the default installation of
Windows XP Home Edition. No Backup icon is present on the
Start menu in Windows XP Home Edition, nor is Backup
listed in Add Remove Programs for Windows XP Home
edition. No mention of the utility is made anywhere
during the installation, but it is included with Windows
XP Home Edition. It's just necessary to do a manual
install to prepare it for use.

To Manually Install the Backup Utility
Insert the CD Rom and navigate to CD-ROM
Drive:\VALUEADD\MSFT\NTBACKUP

Double-click the Ntbackup.msi file to start the wizard
that installs Backup

When the wizard is complete, click Finish.

It gets more interesting after you get NTbackup working. What
are you going to do with it? It won't break up the file into
several CDs. Might be of some use if you only want to back up
data files. It will be fine if you have another hard drive,
Maybe!

Check into the ASR (automated system recovery) feature of XP
home edition. It doesn't have any! So backing up the SYSTEM is
yet another problem. Not sure how you do this.

I hope you find useful answers. (They might help me too.)
