Not sure if this is in the works or can be done but my server is running
freebsd with samba. I can mount the drive in vista but cannot select it as
the location to backup my files. Any ideas on how I can do this?

You cannot backup to a network drive -- This is largely because although
the backup could be made to work, it wouldn't be possible to restore as
the recovery environment has no networking abilities.

It has. Just run only one command "startnet.cmd" and voila, you will
have access to all network shares. The only problem will be with
Computer Browser - it will not work. And we must manually map network
resources to letters with "net use". But we have access to Internet, can
download files with ftp.exe, also some browser will be run like Opera
(but IE not). And with wbadmin.exe (Complete PC Backup command line
tool) we can restore our Vista from Samba share.
