Please help, anyone, I am not computer savvy!!!!!

I am trying to get all my info copied to a CD, Dell wants to reinstall
Microsoft and they told me I will lose everything...I don't have much,
OUTLOOK & WORD are my biggest concerns and I need to save.(but what about my
screensavers and wallpaper) I already tried backing up my documents but I
just cannot do it. When it comes to naming my file the system errors and
told me I cannot name it whatever I named it. I don't even know where to
save all my files to...C drive, D drive, E drive?
Please HELP!!!! Step by Step if poss

The build in XP backup program does work....albeit slowly.....and
unfortunately cannot back up to a CD.
But you can back up to a specific folder that you create on your HD and then
copy that backup file to a CD.
Thats why it comes up with the naming error. If you have 2 hard
drives/partitions you could back up to the one that does not have XP on it.
I suspect that Dell will use a "restore" CD or partition on your system to
restore everything to the same condition as when you first bought your
system. When you do back up be sure you do not back up into that restore
partition.
I have no idea what D or E drive is on your system.E is most likely your CD
drive but D could be anything from a separate drive to a partition on drive
C.You safest backup is to a CD..by way of a HD.
