Backup crashes only on the "Backup" tab

I can open the backup program with no problem. I can click on all the tabs
(welcome, resote, etc.) with no problems, but when I click on the backup tab,
the program hangs.

Any suggestions?

Sidestepping the issue of your problem , but try/use another backup
program - like Abakt (free).
