Windows XP sp2 was giving me trouble so decided to un-install and re-install
after backing up with the windows XP back up program. Everything was backed
up to an external hard drive. Both drives configured NTSF. I reinstalled
Windows XP and all available updates, everything seemed to be great. Next I
wanted to selectivly restore some of the back up files and here is where I
started having problems. My restored program files do not work, My Download
file is restored but none of the links are active and so on. What have I
done wrong, or what don't I understand. I would appriciate any advise or
help I can get.

You must reinstall the programs. When you installed XP, you wiped out any
knowledge of the programs from the registry. Just restoring them from the
backup will not work.

....what was the name of that software (eaons ago) that was designed to
gather up everything belonging to an installed application program, for
transplantation into a different, (but, same version OS/windows GUI) ?
....and which never worked by the way !?

....Norton utilities, ...that used to have "Crashguard," ...that used to be
fun !
...or was it PC Tools ?
