I have two 250 gig drives crammed full of files, mp3s, JPEGs, etc. Please
suggest the best way to capture or backup both drives. have no others as
large to write to.

Fry's had a 1-terabyte cluster in their ad a couple of weeks ago.

Your only real choices are more drives or DVD data disks. But, 500GB
is still something like 50 or more dual-layer DVDs. Not to mention the
DAYS it will take to feed those to your machine. MP3s and Jpegs are
already compressed so you won't get much further space saving as it
packages them up for backup.

There are lots of good backup programs at:

I say copy off the stuff that you can't possibly replace or would cry
if you lose and let the rest of the files take their chances. Don't
get me wrong, I am a FIRM believer in backups (all of my improtant
stuff is triple copied: an external drive, a CD/DVD at home and a
CD/DVD at work) But, days out of my life are not worth the $11 it would
cost me to replace a CD that I never listened to.

start copying the files to dvds.... get a 100 dvd spool for starters

or go get another 400 gb drive.. all that copying is a nightmare!
