Backspace won't delete selected text in MS word. What the hell.

I cannot delete selected text with backspace in word. Delete works, but not
backspace.

What idiotic "feature" did I accidently enable to make word function like
this, and how in the living christ do I fix it.
 
Tools | Options | Edit: "Typing replaces selection."
