I ahve been using Word for a long time and have never
encountered this problem.
When I highlight words to delete and press the backspace
key, it does not delete the text: it only moves the
cursor to the beginning of the highlighted text.
Thanks
you can email me at (e-mail address removed)

Try disabling the WordPerfect options in Tools > Options > General or the
Typing Replaces Selection option under Tools > Options > Edit.

On the Edit tab of Tools | Options, make sure that "Typing replaces
selection" is checked. Backspace is considered "typing."

Perfect! Thank you! But why would this start happening all-of-the-sudden? I have been using this computer for six months already...

Thanks again.

No one really knows why but I suspect a macro in a third-party add-in
or template modified the options.

This is easy enough to do if the creator of the macro didn't know how
to properly code a change to your user preferences stored in
Tools/Options. Which btw, IMHO any macro that permanently modifies
user preferences is a poorly created macro.
