I am trying to back up my hard drive on my computer which is also networked to my wif's computer via an external USB hrad drive. I open the C drive and select all (including hidden folders) then hit copy. I then go into the External Hard drive, Drive G and hit paste. It starts to down load but then the following message apperas "Error Copying File or Folder. Cannot copy NTUser: It is being used by another person or program close any programs that might be using the file and try again". I am a novice and would appreciate any help/advise to resolve this issue.

Thanks!!

Paul

Hi,

I would consider using a 3rd party program such as Norton
Ghost to achieve the results you are after. I know
firewire connections are supported by ghost check if usb
is also supported.

Hi Paul,

Possibly this resulted from when it tried to copy files being use by
whatever other program was open on your computer.

I use a shareware program called Synchromagic Pro for this type of function,
to an external firewire hard drive, and it works fine. You can also use
PowerQuest (now owned by Symantec) Drive Image for a similar function,
although I don't believe it will create it directly on an external USB or
firewire drive. You might need to create it first on your internal hard
drive (or create a second partition on your internal hard drive for this
purpose), and you can then copy these files to your external drive using
Synchromagic Pro or just plain old Windows Explorer.

Hope this helps.
