Backing up the registry

I inadvertently downloaded abetterinternet.com onto my laptop, I don't know
how but it happened.
I have spent hours trying to remove it but to no avail.
I have the instructions from Symantec to remove it, however they reccomend
first backing up the Registry files.
I am running Windows XP Home edition SP2 but it does not give me the back up
option. I only have the factory restore disc.
Can anybody help.?
