Backing up Registry

Since I updated Norton Internet Security to 2004 the
updates have failed. After many emails to Norton support
I've been asked to backup the registry and make a change.

I can't do a backup as there is no function under System
Tools, all it shows is system restore!

Following Norton's advice I went into Safe Mode and chose
Administrator at the login screen. Went into System Tools
and still no backup function.

Norton's answer was that I had a corrupt OS. According to
Microsoft I have an oem version of Windows XP so they
can't help.

Help! Thanks.

You can export your registry to a file you name as a backup. Then if anything
goes wrong you can 'import' it. However making a restore point is much easier.

To install the backup tool onto your computer, follow
the instructios found here:

As to your problems with the updated version of Norton, I
would not be at all surprised to learn that your woes
stem from the fact that there are remnants of prior
versions of Norton still on your computer, and they can
and do cause difficulties with using newer versions of
the software. Symantec has two tools to remove those
elements - one removes NAV 2003 and earlier versions; the
other removes the firewall 2003 and earlier versions.

Go here to read all about it and to download the tools,
if you think that is what you need:
http://tinyurl.com/nk2d - (NAV tool)
http://tinyurl.com/2bpt9 - (firewall tool)

Good luck!

You're a star, now got Backup in System Tools.

I've still got NIS 2004 on my computer, I'll delete it
and run those two programs.

Thanks again!

Jim
