backing up PST folder

I am trying to back up my PST folder to CD-ROM for safe-
keeping.

When I do this the 'Copying...' dialogue box (with pieces
of paper flying from one folder to another and a progress
bar) comes up. The process starts satisfactorily, and
nearly completes, but then just seems to freeze with
continual motion of pieces of paper from one folder to
another but no completion of the copy.

The CR-RW becomes frozen, and even re-starting or shutting
down windows becomes impossible.

I have already done an Inbox repair of the PST file per
the Office assistance page, which has cleaned up file
errors found but not eradicated the failure of this copy
process to complete.

Any ideas?
 
Use your included CD burning software to burn the PST file in question,
while Outlook is closed.

PST bigger than the capacity of the CD-R? Crappy CD creation software?
PST locked open by another application?
 
I had the exact same problem. Check the size of your pst file. I had to use WinZip to compress mine about 50% in order to get it on a CD
