Backing up outlook

When choosing to backup my pst file to "my documents" (to copy to another
computer for importing), I receive a message that says "Outlook needs to exit
before it can backup your Personal folder file(s). Outlook will automatically
backup your file(s) the next time you exit the program." When I exit
Outlook, it doesn't backup. I've changed the path of the "save to" file,
I've deleted the original backup file (it worked yesterday okay) but nothing
works now.

That was it. I removed my PDA from its cradle and the backup completed.

Thanks!

Does the outlook.exe process terminate? If not Outlook isn't really closed
so it can't do a backup. To troubleshoot see;

Also note that an import isn't a restore of the backup. Just use File->
Open-> Outlook Data File...

I'm not sure I understand what you said about importing not being a
restoration. I want to use the same pst file on two different computers.
When my wife takes the laptop with her, I want to be able to move the current
pst file over to the desktop. When she returns the laptop, I want to be able
to move the desktop pst file (most current at that point) back over to the
laptop.

What's the best method to do that? Laptop - Outlook 2003/Desktop - 2002

I have four things listed in the dropdown:

Hank Moore (my main account)
Archive
Personal Folders
Personal Folders

Do I have to delete an account/mailbox every time I open a new file? Won't
I have another "Personal Folders" listed everytime I go thru the process?

When you open the pst-file you can choose a display name so you can
recognize it in the Folder List.

When you copied over the pst-file connect to it by File-> Open, then set it
as the default delivery location-> restart Outlook-> rightclick the root of
the outdated pst-file in the Folder List and choose Close
