Hi,
I have reinstalled my Operating System, and am stuck of how
to get to my emails that are still intact on my hard-drive.
Is there a way to back them up before installing outlook
2003 as its not currently installed.
Unless told otherwise, I don't want to risk installing
outlook 2003 to find out it wipes the emails stored on the
hard-drive and not retreive them properly. Will installing
outlook 2003 retain its settings as long as i have kept
everything intact? All that is gone is the registry.
Thanks, all the backup programs i have looked through
require outlook to be actually installed, which in a way is
pretty stupid because i'm sure more than myself has this
problem.
Thanks
LITHIA

Not sure I fully understand, but; All mail/data is stored in a *.pst file.
To backup, without OL installed simply copy the file to another location and
rename, if req.
You can reinstall OL, pointing it to the existing *.pst, if asked rather
than creating new.
Since OL keeps many settings, ie email accounts etc in the registry you will
have to recreate them
To backup, when OL installed, try

I did a search on my hard-drive for pst files and didn't
find a single one...

in the applicationdata\microsoft\outlook there were only
5 files:
outcmd.dat
outlook.nk2
outlook.srs
outlook.xml
outlprnt

those were the only files, no pst's could be found. I
have no idea why they are not there... Does that mean all
my emails are gone? I don't know why they should have
because I didn't do anything to get rid of them. They
should be all there still.

Is there any other place where the pst files should be?

I need my outlook installed again today... so I may end
up trying to just reinstall it anyway, but i think i'm
going to risk loosing my emails, and that wont be very
good because of the importance of them.

Ah found it! I was looking in the wrong ApplicationData
directory. Didn't realise there was one within
LocalSettings too.
I found my pst files now :)
Just about to install office! Thanks for the help
