If I backup my data does it return my system to the original state when I
bought the computer? The reason why im asking is because i have some spyware
and adware that will not go away such as altnet and wildmedia. I have ad
aware and spybot but they always show up and spybot does not delete altnet.
Also if I do that would i have to re-install programs that I have downloaded?
Since i don't know when the spyware/adware was put on the computer I dont
want to do a system restore or would that be best to back up data then resore
to a piont such as the day I bought the computer? Ive tried seaching for
information on this topic befor i made this post but can't seem to find the
answer any help would be Great thx

If you have some sort of Recovery Disk that you got with your OEM
machine (HP, Compaq, eMachines, etc.) then doing a recovery like that
will return your computer to factory condition. Anything you've added
since you opened the box and set the machine up, programs and data,
will be gone. If you have a non-OEM installation (like a retail copy of
XP) and you format the drive and clean install, the results will be the
same.

You can do this or you can take the machine to a good local computer
repair shop (not a BestBuy or CompUSA type of store) and have them
clean your machine for you. In any case, you should back up your data
regularly.
