backing up a program to disc

Hi......... I have downloaded a few software programs online and would like to have a back-up disc in case of computer disaster. I also have some software that I've updated online & a computer game. My version of WinXP was preinstalled & Ntbackup.exe was never installed, so I can't even back up to hard disc
Is there a way to back up these programs to a CD or DVD?

these programs to a CD or DVD?
just save them on the cd or dvd
