Greetings all,
If someone knows of a ng specific to backup, please let me know, I could not
find one.
Anyway, I am trying to back up files and I am trying with the Windows backup
in the accessory menu. I get to a point to where I need to burn them onto a
cd( I get a msg that says"files ready for cd" or something like that)
However, the files I need to transfer to cd are larger than the 700mb cd.
Can I use two cd's? Just stop and put in a new cd and continue?
I asked a friend about this and he said, "oh,Win XP does not have a backup
program!!" Now what have I been doing then? I thought he was knowledgeable.
What do you guys suggest?
Thanks,
Jim

Actually xp home doesnt have one,it must be installed from xp cd.In youre
case,
cut down the amount of files for it to save the 1st time, then rerun a 2nd and
include other files the 1st you left out...Actually though, the file
transfer wizard
is a better backup than "backup",open the wizard from xp cd,set as old
computer,
select files, settings, etc for it to save, save data in a new folder you
create,once
data is finished, move folder to cd..

Andrew,
Thanks for the reply. I failed to mention that I have XP Pro. Does that
change your answer?

Ntbackup that comes with XP (it's installed by default with XP Pro but
not on XP Home though for Home it's on the installation CD) cannot
backup to CD unless 3rd party burning software is installed. Even in
that case it can only backup to a single CD - it cannot span CDs. It
cannot backup to DVD at all. If you want to still use ntbackup create
the backup to the hard drive then burn that backup to CD using 3rd party
burning software that allows you to span CDs.

Do some reading in these links from a Google search. Could be video
card related. Good luck.

Do yourself a favour and spend a little money. Purchase Acronis True Image
9.0 and use that. Windoze "backup" is just a toy and won't work for true
disaster recovery.
