back space button

Normally, when we pressed the backspace button on the keyboard, word in front
will be deleted. However, my backspace button couldn't used for this function
few weeks ago. Instead, I have to use 'delete' button for deletion. Anyone
can help me restore this function?
 
In Word, click on Tools | Options | Edit | check the "Typing
replaces selection" box | OK.
