Check Power Settings for the network card, make sure "Allow the computer to turn
this device off to save power" is not enabled.

When this is a problem, try opening a command window (Start - Run - "cmd"), and
typing two commands:
"ipconfig /release"
"ipconfig /renew"

This is a common problem, possibly caused by problems in the network
card's driver program. I recommend disabling the network connection
before going into Standby and enabling the network connection after
coming back.

Unless this is a laptop, I suggest not using standby. All new (and most
not-so-new) desktop PCs are green, so just let the monitor and other
green peripherals use their power-save mode and let the PC run forever.

If you don't like wasting all that CPU power while you sleep, visit
