avoiding bad CD DVD freezes

Greetings.

How can I keep my Windows going unstable when I am working with bad
CDs, DVDs? Some VCDs, and DVDs contain regions that are probably
corrupt and my system goes unstable when watching movies and hit such a
region. I try to skip those parts with no luck (well it rarely works).

Secondly, is it possible to adjust MediaPlayer to not to go so
ambitious on reading such sections and let it be?

Thanks

Move the CD/DVD drive to the secondary IDE port on your motherboard.
Configure the jumpers so that it will be a master if it is alone on the port
or a slave if it will be with another drive on the port.

This will improve system stability, but the videos themselves will still
skip/freeze on the bad portions of the media.
