AVI problem

I can't insert any of my avi movie files into power point?
The pps I had developed about 4 months ago worked fine, now all my avi's do not play. I've tried reinserting the movie files into the ppt however I receive an error stating that the file is not supported. Any suggestions?
The “avi’s†do play on WMP…
The laptop I use has all the codec’s I had used in developing the avi’s before and the file path name is shorter that the recommended max..
Lost pps.
