AVI Display Size

When I save my movie in Windows Media format the display size is 320 X 240 -- perfect. But when I save it in AVI format the display size is 720 X 480 -- which makes the model in my fashion show look fat! My ultimate goal is to save the movie as an MPEG (which WMM doesn't do) so I have to go from AVI to MPEG. What can I do to preserve my movie's proportions?

This is one of those weird video things... 720x480 is what you want - when
you make the MPEG from your AVI, it will look normal again. Something to do
with non-square pixels, and no matter how many times I have it explained to
me it never makes any sense.

The MPEG I made from my AVI (using TMPGEnc Plus 2.5) is identical to my AVI. My model still looks fat! Is there any way to correct this
