Can someone explain please why the new automatic updates feature in SP2
is not working? It is turned on and scheduled to run every day at 0300
GMT.

When I visited the Windows Update site, I found two critical updates
which I know, from other computers I run, had been available for several
days.

Is your computer fully powered on - i.e., not in standby or hibernation -
and connected to the Internet at that time? Do you have a modem or DSL
connection to the Internet? ISPs will sometimes disconnect a telephone
connection after a certain period of non-use. Do you have software that cuts
your computer off from connecting to the Internet under certain conditions?
Zone Alarm, for example, can be configured to do this. Have you tried a
different time setting? Some ISPs use the wee hours for network maintenance,
so connectivity may be spotty.

My power settings are: monitor off after 20 mins, HD never, standby
never, hibernate never.

I have a permanent cable connection direct to the internet (not a cached
page download service like some people have)

No. I only have the microsoft firewall.

No. I subscribe to my ISP's notification service. If maintenance is due,
I get an email. If service has been interrupted in my area (virtually
unhead of), I get an email. Power cuts are also rare in the UK.

For some reason the reply below was deleted from the server, which may
explain why I got no feedback.
