| Is your computer fully powered on - i.e., not in standby or
hibernation -
| and connected to the Internet at that time?
My power settings are: monitor off after 20 mins, HD never, standby
never, hibernate never.
Do you have a modem or DSL
| connection to the Internet? ISPs will sometimes disconnect a telephone
| connection after a certain period of non-use.
I have a permanent cable connection direct to the internet (not a cached
page download service like some people have)
Do you have software that cuts
| your computer off from connecting to the Internet under certain
conditions?
| Zone Alarm, for example, can be configured to do this.
No. I only have the microsoft firewall.
Have you tried a
| different time setting? Some ISPs use the wee hours for network
maintenance,
| so connectivity may be spotty.
No. I subscribe to my ISP's notification service. If maintenance is due,
I get an email. If service has been interrupted in my area (virtually
unhead of), I get an email. Power cuts are also rare in the UK.
