Autoupdate keeps downloading and installing IE updates

It doesn't matter how many times I agree to installing the "new" updates for
IE, each time I restart my computer, the little globe and window icon comes
up to say there are new updates ready to install. How do I stop this from
happening? The autoupdate setting in control panel is greyed out so I can't
shut it off or change anything that way.

It's difficult to know what is wrong from that description. Is it the
*same* update that causes this? If so, it may be that there are two
copies of some file that the update replaces. If it is a specific
update you can look it up in the Microsoft Knowledge Base and that MAY
tell you what files are being replaced. Then search for the file name
and see if you have duplicates.

If I'm right (and I'm only guessing) one will be updated by the
Winodws patch and the other won't be. Move the duplicate into a safe
place (eg your My Documents) and restart the computer. If that works
OK try everything out and see if anything is broken. If it is put the
duplicate back where it was and get an update of the product involved.

Anyway, I'd be interested if my guess is correct, so please post your
results.

Cheers,

Cliff
