Forgive me if this is not an XP problem.

I have had to return to a back-up laptop Sony Vaio running XP + SP2 while a
newer machine is being repaired. My problem is that when I put a CD or a DVD
in the disk drive, it will not open automatically. I assume that I am missing
a simple setting change that will enable this to happen.

I would appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction.

1. Open XP's "Help and Support Center".
2. In the Search box type: AUTOPLAY , and hit enter.
3. Click on: "Change how your computer handles multimedia content".

THank you Carey for your advice. I had already used the Help Centre and I
just tried again. But there was no positive reaction when I inserted a DVD.
So tried the autoplay repair wizard: it told me it doesn't support my
perfectly legal OP system.

There just has to be a simpler answer than this: like "nothing works". Are
there any other solutions?

Does the Sony laptop have a DVD player installed?
If it does, is a DVD decoder also installed?

I don't know the technical names but I have been watching The Blue Max on DVD
on this machine since I last wrote to you. Only problem was it wouldn't open
automatically, I had to double-click InterVideo to coax it into action. I
could have used Start/Run E:\browse to coax it too. But nothing will make the
machine just light up on DVD or CD injection.
