sometime back i believe i eliminated autoplay from the
registry ( i was following tips for helping tweaking xp for
video editing ) i cannot any longer load any software since
auto play dow not work. if i reinstalled xp with "repair" -
would this restore registry settings, or does anyone know
what to insert in the registry ???

Adjust CD-ROM AutoPlay
Right-click the CD-ROM drive in Windows Explorer (or My Computer), and
select Properties.
Select the AutoPlay tab.
Now you can select your AutoPlay preferences according to the type of
content.

CD-Rom Stops Auto-playing
Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services/Shell Hardware Detection/Return
this service to Automatic.
If that is not the case then:-
Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet\Services\Cdrom
AutoRun = 1

That is excessive. It is probably enough to Use TweakUI - one of the XP
Powertoys from (if you have installed XP SP1)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

If you have not installed SP!, the earlier version can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Once installed you will find it in Start - All Programs - Powertoys for
Windows XP

Its My Computer - Autoplay, ensure the drive is checked both in Drives
(by letter) and in [drive] Types.

Then in My Computer, r-click the drive, Properties - Autoplay. In the
content type pane select Mixed Content; then click in Select Action,
highlight 'open to view files in Explorer' and click Apply

In XP, all you need to do is open Windows Explorer (or right click My
Computer and select Explore), right click on your CD drive letter (usually
D), and select properties. You will see a tab titled AutoPlay form which you
have numerous possibilities for AutoPlay.
