I see I'm not the only one with an Autoplay problem. I'm wondering if it has
anything to do with the XP service pack 2. Since we downloaded this pack, the
autoplay no longer works. I can still run cd/dvd manually from "My Computer"
but was wondering if Microsoft have sabotaged my computer, any suggestions?
p.s. I've tried following all suggested solutions but so far, zilch!

It's a little difficult to make suggestions unless you post a list
of the ones that you have tried so far.

Hi there Pegasus,
I've tried going into the Registry to check values. I've downloaded the
Autoplay repair wizard and ran that test. I've checked in the Device manager
( that reported that the devices were all working properly). When you put a
disk in, you get the slightest of flickers from the little egg timer, then
nothing. The computer is not one year old yet and is not abused, so I don't
think the Hard drive is on its way out as one advisor suggested

Pegasus, this was the same advise given by someone else, I followed the
instructions given and found everything as it should be. I can't understand
why everything shows the devise to be working normally but obviously it is
not. The other concern I have is that it all seems to have started after
downloading Service pack 2. Just a quick glance through some of the other
posts has shown that this pack has been causing a lot of problems. I've sent
of an e-mail to Microsoft so I'll see if they can resolve the problem. Thanks
for your input, will follow up your other suggestions
