autoNumber field duplicated previous values

Hi,
I have a Access 97 application, it's been running well
for the last two years, but recently I got users call,
regarding the autoNumber field duplicated previous values.
When the users created a new record, the autoNumber field
should increment 1, but instead it pick a previous number.
Any suggetion to work around? Thanks for your kindly help.

I am getting the same thing except in Access 2000. I have
reset the seed value over the max value and this works for
a while but then it picks a previous value and I can not
determine what is causing this to happen.

Do you have any idea to fix this problem? It happened two
times Today. What I did is keeping adding the new records,
until it reach the number of last record. My users seems
lost confidence with me. Thanks.

Sounds like a known MSA2000 bug. Update your users' installations to at
least SR-1; the current is SR-3 available from the Microsoft Office web
site.
