Automatically Turn On Computer after Power Loss

Hi;

I have a need to restart a computer after power is restored. I have a
setting in my bios that I enabled, but if I unplug the computer and
then plug it back in, it will not power up unless I press the Start Up
Button on the front of the case. I am using a Pentium 4 with windows
XP. How can I get my computer to immediately start up any time power
is restored?

In my experience "Restart when power is restored" only works when the PC
was actually powered on when the lights went out. If the PC was shutdown
at the time, it stayed shutdown.

What was the "setting in your BIOS that you enabled"?

Often what are wanting is done by a jumper on the motherboard. Look for a
"power save state" or similiar-worded jumper.
"Power save state" means that after an interrupt in power, or when power is
first applied, it remains off. Disabling it allows it to turn in
automatically.

If you are expecting power loss frequently (unintentionally or
intentionally), why not get a UPS? They are cheap these days. A UPS will
allow the computer to be gracefully brought down and up before/after a power
loss automatically -- and you won't have to worry about HDD corruption.

This is a hardware issue, not an XP OS issue. Post to a hardware newsgroup.
