If I move a users mailbox to another Exchange server how can I automate the
process of updating the users' Outlook mail server settings to point to the
new exchange server. I would like to push a setting through a login script
or AD policy if possible. Is this contained in the OST file or elsewhere?

I have noticed that this process seems to be automatic for my Outlook 2003
users but not for earlier version. Is this the case?

Thanks
Ken

it should be automatic for any version of Outlook...I move mailboxes all the
time and we have several older versions of Outlook out there...rarely does
the profile have to be manually updated...

Hi Ken,

As far as I know the MAPI Protocoll always finds the right server. MAPI
is used for communication of Outlook Clients and Exchange.
I am sure for Outlook 2000 or higher and Exchange 2000 or higher.
So I think you do not have to reconfigure your clients.

Hope this helps.

Rgds,

Marco

I have tested this and it seems to work in some situations but not in
others. Perhaps the changes are not picked up by some clients. Maybe it
takes some time for the AD info to get updated somewhere.

What is the process of MAPI finding the exchange server? Where is it coming
from? I need to find out why it is not working for everyone and come up with
a fix or a workaround.
