I know there's gotta be a way to have a powerpoint file run as a slideshow
when opened instead of defaulting to open in design view. Will someone
please tell me how to do this? Is it a macro that runs on open or something?

Either change the file extension from .ppt to .pps or from within
PowerPoint, choose Save As from the File menu, and choose PowerPoint Show
(.pps) as the type of file.

Save the presentation as a "PowerPoint Show", or change the extension from
PPT to PPS. This should trigger the presentation to open in show mode
instead of edit mode.

Do as David and Kathy tell you.

Or if you don't want to change the extension, just right-click the file in
Explorer or My Computer and choose "Show".
