Automatically receiving e-mails when Outlook is closed

Hello,

My Outlook continues to recieve and download e-mails, even when Outlook is
not open.
It displays a new mail desktop alert in the bottom right of the screen, but
Outlook is not open!
This is increasingly annoying if I am not home and my computer has been left
on, because it means that e-mails do not make it through to my BlackBerry.

Any suggestions as to how I might stop it doing this?

Then it is not closed! The process must be still running. have you checked
in Task Manager for Outlook.exe still running, even though the actual
application is not showing on your desktop?
Do you have a PDA or similar attached to your computer?
