Automatic updates popup

Hi, I have recently got a laptop with WindowsXP.

On the taskbar is a little yellow button that I cannot open, but which
says it is receiving updates.

At shutdown the normal close button says it will install updates before
closing down, so to shut it I have been using a line that appears
underneath this to avoid the updates being loaded.

Now I have a popup appearing at intervals saying that automatic updates
are almost complete and the computer will restart itself in a few
minutes.

Is this normal or has something nasty affected the computer?

Your computer is configured to automatically download
and install Windows Updates. This is normal. You should
restart your computer in order to complete the update process.

It may be normal, but it can get annoying after awhile. You might
want to disable auto updates in the control panel and just do it
manually once a week or so.

Thank you. So many virii about now I was not sure...
 
If you don't want this to happen go to "control panel" and then
"automatic updates" and make the necessary changes (turning it off,
etc)
