I just installed XP SP2. When I rebooted, I tried to turn on Automatic
Updates. I got an error that said that I would need to do so manually. When
I open Automatic Updates from the Control Panel, I find that all the options
are Grayed Out. How can I configure it so that I can select these options.

“The Windows Update Service is not available" and all of the check boxes and
drop-down menus are greyed out. This can happen if the Automatic Update service
is disabled.

Click Start, select Run and type: Services.msc
Press Enter
Locate the - "Automatic Update"
Make sure the service is not disabled and started.

"The Windows Update Service is not available" and all of the check boxes and
drop-down menus are greyed out. Automatic Update Service is missing from the
services.msc list.
Can happen if the wuaueng.dll file is not registered.

Register the file wuaueng.dll:
Click Start, select Run
Type: regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
Press OK.

Kaylene,

Thank you for taking time to address my post.

I have tried both of the options you mentioned but they have not resolved my
issue. I I did check to make sure that I am logged in on the machine as the
Administrator.
