I am continually prompted to download an automatic update (KB920872). I must
have initiated this download some 15 times or more. Why do I continuously
receive this update prompt?

Hello ddawkins:
Don't want the auto-updates? Here's an idea:
Windows key + "R" > [in Run box] enter "services.msc" [w/out the
quotes] > in the list of local services find "Automatic Updates" > [rt.
click on it] > choose Properties > [if Auto Updates is already started,
stop it] > Startup Type > choose Disabled.
Obviously, at this point, you assume much more of the responsibility
for staying aware of important updates. Also, you should at this point
begin to enjoy a machine that boots up and operates slightly-quicker.
Have fun!

Bad advice. Better to change the behavior of updates from "Automatic" to
"download and let me know when they're ready". For the OP's problem:

Windows Update Says the update is still needed

Another option is post to the experts in the Windows Update newsgroup.
