Hi All,

I am try to get my Outlook 2003 the automatically download (or at least look
for) new at startup. I cannot seem to find the setting, can anyone help?

Thanks

Configure an automatic Send/Receive interval in Tools > Send/Receive >

Thanks, but I have been there, and that is not what I want. I want Outlook
to automatically begin to send/receive when I start it, that option is not
there. I recently reloaded Windows, and prior to doing so, Outlook always
did this task automatically. I just cannot find the setting to make this so.

Hi Tom,

Russ is the expert not I (that's for sure), but...

I set my OL as Russ suggests, and then close it. When I re-launch OL,
it immediately runs the send/receive cycle. Is that not what you want?

BTW, I put your message at the bottom, because I read from top to
bottom.

All the best,

Yes, that is what I want, but that setting is not there.

Doesn't matter to me, I try to be congruent, so the thread doesn't get
screwed, like now!

set it to check mail every xx min and it will do it when it starts... and
you do that using the steps russ mentioned.

Nope, that still isn't the solution.

If you have it set to do a send and receive every xx minutes and it fails to
do a mail pass when you first open outlook, then you need to disable the
option, close outlook (confirm it's closed in task manager) and reopen, then
reenable it again and close and reopen again.

In general, here are the reasons automatic polling might fail in Outlook:
1. You have created an unrealistic polling interval. Many users set their
polling interval to 1 minute thinking they will be downloading mail
continuously as it arrives. Such settings are not recommended. They put an
unnecessary strain on mail servers and can create conflicting polling
requests that can damage your Send/Receive Group or even your account
settings. 10 minutes is the recommended minimum.
2. While exiting Outlook, you inadvertently set your profile to Work Offline
(this option is immediately above the Exit command in the File menu).
3. You have a damaged Send/Receive Group as documented here:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q312/3/36.asp
4. You have overridden your Send/Receive Group settings as documented here:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q320/8/36.asp
5. Your mail account settings are corrupt. Recreate your mail account from
scratch.
6. Firewall software is blocking your transmission. Disable your Firewall
temporarily to see if automatic polling is restored.

<snipped>

Hi All,

Ok, I figured it out! On the "Send/Receive" settings (i.e.
Tools|Send/Receive||Send/Receive Setting|drop down list choices)
the choice to check/uncheck "Disable Scheduled Send Receive" was not listed
(but still checked), and this was something that should have been there for
a choice. I uninstalled Outlook "ONLY" from Add/Remove, reinstaled, and it
appeared again, and i unchecked it, and all is well. I found that this
setting was not listed, when looking through "Help" in Outlook the mention
of that feature, and then noticing that I didn't have it.

Just to clarify also, I tried a repair, and this did not help, and I want to
thank Russ and Diane for all of the help, as this spurred other thoughts
that lead me to this solution (ie the "Help" center)!
