When I first bought my HP Paviliion 7000 series laptop, I could insert a
program application disk in my cd drive and the setup program would start
automatically. For some reason my computer no longer does this. How do I make
it do that again?

Hi Mark, I tried your solution but it didn't work. It didn't work for any
type of media I put in my optical drive. You should know that my optical
drive is a combo dvd burner/cd burner drive. I don't know if that matters or
not. Please help.

Start, Run and enter REGEDIT, to set these values.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom]
"Autorun" = dword:0x00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]

"NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=dword:0x00000091

also:
In XP Pro Go to start/run, and type GPEDIT.MSC. Go to Computer
Configuration, Administrative Templates, System find the item "Turn Off
Autoplay"

Hi Mark, Thanks for replying. When I got into the HKEY_CURRENT_USER string
there are two values for "NoDriveTypeAutoRun" one is how you have it listed
and the other on a separate line is: dword:0x000000ff (255). Now the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ setting was already how you had it listed. With the
exception of (1) after the 0x00000001 string. Is it the second
"NoDriveTypeAutoRun" value the problem and if so what do I do? Thanks again

The FF setting turns off autorun.
