automatic mail send/receive

A few weeks back I turned off the automatic send/receive
function for email in OL 2003. After turning it back on,
it no longer works. At this point, after twiddling with
a number of settings, it still doesn't work and I'm not
sure what the settings have to be to get it to work
properly now.

Any ideas or step would be greatly appreciated.

What settings have you tried? What are your mail account types and
connection types?

Sorry, that's what I get for posting when in a hurry so
here goes.

OL 2003, SP1 running on WinXP Pro, SP2 over a LAN.

I believe I'm setup as Internet Mail Only.

My mail is POP3 with inbound mail from a Virtual Private
Server that is different than the outbound server (my
ISP).

In Options | Mail Options the "Send/Receive when
connected" box is checked.

In Send/Recieve "All Accounts" is highlighted
and "Include this Group in send/receive" is checked as is
Schedule an automatic send/receive every" and 1 minute is
currently set. Everything else in this section is
unchecked.

If I've missed something, let me know.

That narrows it down, but only a bit. For sure you need to set a more
realistic polling interval.

In general, here are the reasons automatic polling might fail in Outlook:
1. You have created an unrealistic polling interval. Many users set their
polling interval to 1 minute thinking they will be downloading mail
continuously as it arrives. Such settings are not recommended. They put an
unnecessary strain on mail servers and can create conflicting polling
requests that can damage your Send/Receive Group or even your account
settings. 10 minutes is the recommended minimum.
2. While exiting Outlook, you inadvertently set your profile to Work Offline
(this option is immediately above the Exit command in the File menu).
3. You have a damaged Send/Receive Group as documented here:

4. You have overridden your Send/Receive Group settings as documented here:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q320/8/36.asp
5. Your mail account settings are corrupt. Recreate your mail account from
scratch.
6. Firewall software is blocking your transmission. Disable your Firewall
temporarily to see if automatic polling is restored.
7. Windows XPSP2 changes to RPC, but only if running against Exchange

Apparently I overrode the send/rec. settings by setting
disable send/rec. from the tools menu. And, of course,
promptly fogot about it. Thanks for your help.
